On Facebook I was shocked at the number of anti asylum seeker, anti migration pages and groups. Meanwhile, at the Jesuit Refugee Service Melbourne Cup luncheon, the global financial crisis affected the hat action, but not the level of donations.

Rather than seeking a balance between two points of view in the community, asylum policy should focus on our ethical duties towards people in need.
